Throughout the Bible, in both the Old and New Testament we have men and women who have received a vision from God – by that I mean they have received a “glimpse” into God’s plan for them specifically, or for mankind. Habakkuk 2:2-3 states “Write the vision and make it plain on the tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come …” and Prov. 29:18 “without a vision, my people perish”. Whether that vision is something manifest before your eyes or something God has revealed to your spirit; whether it is a vision for your future or a vision for the road immediately ahead, as Christians we need a vision to “anchor” us to the journey God has us on. And that vision must come from the only reliable source – God, who is the Author and Finisher of “the plan”.
In the scripture reference above, Habakkuk gives us specific things to do while pondering the direction God has revealed to you. First, he says to write the vision down to clarify the direction of what God has said (so you can refer back to the details as you go forward). Second: He says that it is for “an appointed time”. In other words, God hasn’t put everything in place for the vision to make sense. “But in the end it will speak (it will become clear)”. But then Habakkuk says something very important: “Though it tarry, WAIT FOR IT. Because it will SURELY COME”.
I believe the hardest thing about God giving specific direction or revelation to us as His children is not the believing that God speaks to His children and gives needed direction throughout our lives, but the waiting over time for the manifestation of what God has said! The very fact that Habakkuk says “though it tarry, wait” indicates it is going to take time for God to set things in place for the word to come to pass – it could be days, weeks, months or years. The promise of God is that at the end it will speak. You might say “at the end” of what? The answer: when God has finished putting in place everything that needs to be ready for the manifestation of the word to “happen”. And patience is not generally a favorite word in the life of a Christian. God, during that tarrying time, is building you as His child. He is adding to you some thing or things that can only be given you by your waiting.
Habakkuk leaves us with these words of encouragement. He says the waiting, although seemingly endless at times, will produce! He says: wait for it … Because it WILL SURELY COME!!!
Faith is “seeing the impossible” while seeing is “believing the impossible”. Let your “believing see” the goal achieved, because it is only a matter of patience in walking the path that will bring you to God’s intended goal for you. Be encouraged. This word is for YOU!
