The Battle To Believe

As Christians there are three things we need to believe: (1) believe God has you on a mission; (2) believe you are gifted, and (3) believe your mission goes wherever you go. When I say believe, I mean that we are to have faith regarding these areas. These three things are a vital part of why you and I are here at this time and what God has given each of us to accomplish the “how” of why He has put us here. We are not here by “chance”. We are here by “design” – God’s design.

We have seen that as a child learns and grows, they simply believe because they believe simply. Believing for the child is not complicated. It’s not difficult. Their learning and growing experiences have not yet taught them that what they believe may not be so. Their minds are not cluttered with the contradictions of years of living. It is the learning experiences of living that can become the greatest hindrance to believe for the seemingly impossible things God has said in His Word are ours if we believe.

Our teaching as we grow, comes from many sources, three to name a few: life’s experiences, God, and other persons – often with conflicting direction or points of view. When we open to God teaching us, we find that what we are learning in His Word now has to overcome what life has taught us. Because of our experiences, we find ourselves in a battle to believe! What we know deep in our hearts is true, seems more like a wish or a fairytale. “We WRESTLE not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world …” Ephesians 6:12

Why am I saying this??? I’m saying this because this is the reality. This is how it really is whenever you are trying to take new territory in believing for what is impossible without faith. Hebrews 11:6 says ” but without faith it is impossible to please him, for he that comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them who diligently seek him. This is life in this world as a Christians believer! We are wrestling “to take the crown”!!!

But God has a greater purpose for the wrestling. It is the fight to possess — the fight to possess the land and take new ground! The fight is to gain new strength, increase stamina, and learn, through taking hold of greater faith, how to be a more effective warrior. God is not satisfied with our “just believing”. He wants that faith to be accompanied with power. Faith WITH power are to join arms. They Must join arms! That is what God wants to fulfill in each of us. 2 Thess. 1:11 “…fulfill all the …work of faith with power” — verse 12 “that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him … And both that faith AND the power to produce are given to every Christian who will believe God for it.
